The preceeding table is a listing of various space-weather indices from a variety of sources. The listings in the upper section of the table are daily values covering the past week, and the listings in the lower section (labeled Real-time Geomagnetic ...) are for the past 21 hours. A brief description of each parameter listed and the source of each is provided below:

  • NWRA SSNe: This is a daily effective sunspot number index). calculated by NWRA from ionospheric foF2 measurements provided by the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). The value for the current day is calculated from the last 24 hours of foF2 data. Note that the SSNe values in this table all following the sunspot series V1.0 scaling.
  • Mean SSNe: An SSNe calculated using five-day mean foF2 values.
  • SWS T: The daily T-index from the Austrailian Space Weather Services (SWS).

  • EISN: The Estimated International Sunspot Number from the WDC-SILSO, Royal Observatory of Belgium, Brussels.
  • F10 SSNf: SSN calculate from the 10.7cm solar radio flux (see F10 below and this link).
  • FBAR SSNf: SSN calculate from the 90-day mean F10.7 (see FBAR below and this link).

  • F10: The daily noon 10.7cm solar radio flux (F10.7) from the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory (DRAO).
  • SWPC Pred: The predicted daily Penticton 10.7cm solar radio flux from the NOAA SWPC.
  • FBAR: The daily 90-day mean of F10.7.

  • GFZ Ap: Preliminary estimate of the daily Ap index from GeoForchungsZentrum Helmholtz Centre Potsdam.
  • SWPC Pred: Forecast of the daily Ap index form the NOAA SWPC.

  • From SSNe Analysis: The RMS and percent RMS difference between the foF2 values used in generating the most recent NWRA SSNe value and foF2 calculated using the SSNe value in the CCIR foF2 model; and the number of foF2 values used in calculating SSNe.

  • GOES X-ray flux: The most recent 1-8 Angstrom (0.1-0.8 nm) solar x-ray flux from the primary GOES satellite in flare classification level (A, B, C, M, X). A flux level of '--' indicates that the flux is below the A classification level.
  • 24hr lower-decile GOES X-ray flux: The lower-decile 1-8 Angstrom (0.1-0.8 nm) solar x-ray flux from the primary GOES satellite for the previous 24 hours.
  • 3-Hour ap: Preliminary estimate of the geomagnetic ap index calculated for the 3-hour period at the column head. These (and the following two) indices are calculated by the GeoForchungsZentrum Helmholtz Centre Potsdam.
  • 3-Hour Kp: Preliminary estimate of the geomagnetic Kp index calculated for the 3-hour period at the column head.
  • 24-Hour Ap: Preliminary estimate of the 24-hour Ap index calculated for the 24-hour period ending at the end of the 3-hour period at the column head.

Notes:

  1. A -999.0 in the upper section is a missing-data indicator.

Plots and further information about these and other space-weather indices can be found on our space-weather indices page.
